Built my first workbench with pocket screws and 2x4s, now I use half lap joints and it takes 3 times as long
When I started woodworking about 4 years ago I built everything with pocket screws because a guy on YouTube said they were strong enough. Last month I rebuilt my shop bench using half lap joints on the legs and it held 400 pounds of steel stock without a wobble. I still use pocket screws for jigs and quick stuff but for anything that takes real weight I cut the laps now. What joints do you all trust for benches that see real abuse?
