Finally bought into the hype on those expensive shop vac filters

For like 3 years I ran a standard paper filter in my Ridgid shop vac and just accepted it would clog every 20 minutes. My buddy at work kept pushing the HEPA style cartridge filters, said I was wasting my time. I finally dropped $45 on one at the Home Depot off I-10 last month. First time I vacuumed drywall dust it kept pulling strong the whole job, didn't have to stop and bang the filter out once. Has anyone else fought this upgrade for way too long before giving in?

Did you notice any difference in how long the motor runs before kicking on the thermal overload?

Man, @daniel857 I swear that motor runs just long enough to heat up my garage to sauna temperatures before it shuts off. I timed it once and got maybe 4 minutes before the overload kicked in, but after I cleaned the dust off the vents it stretched to like 7 minutes. Still feels like it's playing games with me though, cutting out right when I'm about to finish up a cut.
