I thought the tap wrench in my late dad's toolbox was junk, then a machinist in Akron proved me wrong
My dad passed in 2019 and I finally went through his old Kennedy toolbox in the garage last weekend. I almost tossed the tap wrench in the scrap bin because it was rusted and the handle wobbled. My neighbor Dave runs a small machine shop off Manchester Road in Akron and I showed it to him on a whim. He cleaned it up, tightened the jaw, and used it to chase the threads on a stripped bolt for my riding mower in about 4 minutes. He said it was a Greenfield from the 60s and guys pay $40 to $60 for them now. I felt like an idiot for almost scrapping it. Anyone else find a tool in an old box that turned out way better than the new stuff on the shelf at Harbor Freight?
