Ignored drain slope for 2 years until water pooled in my foundation

Bought my house near Portland 2 years ago and every spring I got a puddle in the basement corner. Kept blaming the gutters, caulking, whatever. Last month I finally dug down to the footing drain and found a 4 foot section that sloped uphill. Some previous owner must have settled the pipe wrong. Been fighting water for 24 months over one stupid mistake. Anyone else find a hidden cause that wasted way too much of your time?

Did you actually run a level across the pipe or just eyeball it... sometimes a little slope makes a huge difference if the ground shifts later on?

Grab a cheap laser level from Harbor Freight next time, it saves guessing games like that.

That Harbor Freight laser goes out of calibration if you drop it once, ask me how I know. You can actually use a digital angle finder from Amazon for like 15 bucks and it wont lie to you no matter how many times you smack it against a stud.
