My $14 laser level changed how I hang shelves in 2 afternoons

I tried that cheap laser level from the hardware store in Portland, the one with the green beam, mostly to see if it was a gimmick. Turns out it got my stud marks dead on for 5 shelves in a row, and I didn't have to redo a single hole. What I learned is that my old bubble level was the problem, not my measuring skills. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that quietly outperformed their expensive one?
