Overheard a contractor say 'measure once, cuss twice' and it clicked

I used to rush into framing and just eyeball it, figured close enough was fine. Then I heard this old-timer at the lumber yard say that line and realized I was wasting time fixing my mistakes. Has anyone else had a dumb saying finally make them slow down?

Eyeballing it works fine if you actually know what you're doing. Sounds like you're just slow now and still making the same mistakes.
