PSA: A framing contractor told me my nail spacing was all off on a deck job in Portland
He said I was putting nails every 6 inches when the code for that specific ledger board called for every 4 inches. I argued with him for a bit but then checked the local amendments and sure enough he was right. Has anyone else had a random inspection comment that forced you to redo something you thought was fine?

@norathomas is right, check the local amendments before you start nailing and save yourself the headache.

Haven't you ever had one of those moments where you're 100 percent sure you're right, but then you check one tiny detail and your whole world flips? It's wild how local amendments can sneak up on you, even when you think you have the base codes down. Honestly, that's the kind of frustrating lesson that sticks with you, but it sure beats having a real inspection fail later.

Start keeping a binder of all the local amendments for every town you work in. I print them out and stick them right in with the job file so I can flip through before I even order materials. Trust me, having that stack of papers saved my ass more than once when a detail I thought I knew turned out to be different down the street.
