Roofer in Tacoma smacked my ridge cap with a hammer and I still think about it
Last spring I was up on a job in Tacoma, third day of a tear off, and the guy training me whacked a ridge cap with his hammer to seat it instead of lining it up first. It cracked the tile and we had to eat the cost on a $90 piece, plus two hours of rework. He said it was faster and I said it was wrong, and now I still can't decide if speed on a roof matters more than doing it clean the first time. One side says get it done and move on, the other says sloppy work comes back to bite you. Where do you all land on this, is a quick hit with the hammer ever okay or do you always line it up first?
Had a buddy who rushed a chimney flashing last fall thinking it would save time, and it leaked like crazy by December. Cost him way more fixing it than if he'd just done it right the first time.
