Thread depth gauges: everyone trusts the digital one until it lies to you
I've been on a framing crew in Boise for about 5 years now. Last month we had a spec inspection fail because a guy on our team was using a digital depth gauge that read 1/8 inch off after he dropped it off a ladder. The inspector caught it on a random 30 foot wall and made us drill test holes in 3 different spots. Took us half a day to prove the framing was actually fine. Now I keep a manual gauge in my pouch and check the digital one against it every Monday morning. Takes 10 seconds. Has anyone else had a tool drift on them after a small drop and cost them time on site?
