TIL most folks on here prefer pre-hung doors but I still swear by slab installs
I hung 12 slab doors last month for a custom house in St. Louis and saved the client $800 total compared to pre-hung quotes. You just need a solid router jig and patience to get the hinge mortises perfect. Anyone else still doing slabs or am I the odd one out?

Pre-hungs save so much time on new construction though. Slabs look clean but you're basically gambling on the frame being perfectly square. For me, the headache isn't worth the savings.

It's kind of funny how that same gamble shows up everywhere, not just in construction. We pick the quick and easy option because it saves time, then cross our fingers that everything else lines up perfectly. Slabs are like buying an offbrand phone charger you know probably won't work great, but the price is right until your battery dies. Prehungs feel like the boring but reliable choice, which is basically how I decide between anything that needs to actually function.
