Used to sketch floor plans by hand, now I just use a free app on my phone
Back in 2019 I was still drawing out apartment layouts on graph paper with a pencil every time I needed to show a tenant where the smoke detectors were. It took forever and my handwriting looked like a 5th grader’s. Then last year I grabbed a free app called Floor Plan Creator and now I can do a whole unit in like 10 minutes flat. The old way forced me to double check every measurement but the app flags stuff automatically. Has anyone else found a digital tool that actually made their job way easier?

Ha no lie I still sketch stuff on napkins sometimes too, mostly because I can't find a pen half the time and my phone is dead lmao. The app probably saves me from embarrassing math errors more than actual code stuff, which is good because my mental math is basically just guessing at this point.

Wait, you had to draw out smoke detector locations by hand on graph paper for every single tenant? That’s wild, like old school property management from the 90s. I mean I get it, I used to sketch parking lot layouts on napkins back in the day, but smoke detectors? That’s a level of detail I never would have thought to map out manually. Floor Plan Creator sounds like a lifesaver, I bet that app catches all the little goofs that would slip past a tired hand sketch.

Did that app actually catch any real safety code violations for you, or was it more for organization?
