Walked into a job site in Tulsa last Tuesday and saw a guy using a 12 inch speed square as a hammer
I was there to check on a framing crew my brother hired for a garage build, and this kid was just whacking 16 penny nails with the flat side of his square. I stood there for a minute before I said anything because I wanted to see if it would bust. It didn't, but the square was bent about 8 degrees off and his corners were already showing it on the third wall. My brother had bought the crew brand new squares two weeks earlier at about $14 each, so that was already the second one ruined. What got me was that the foreman didn't care, he just told the kid to flip it around and keep going. I think the real problem is nobody on that site had ever been taught to respect the tool, they just hand them out and expect the work to sort itself out. Any of you run crews where you actually make the new guys buy their own squares so they feel it when they wreck one?
