My old lifting partner in Salem asked why I never texted back for 2 years, and I finally gave her the real answer
Ran into my old gym buddy Dana at a coffee spot in Salem last Tuesday. We used to lift together 4 days a week for almost 3 years, then one day I just kind of faded out and stopped answering her texts. She asked me point blank why I dropped off, and instead of the usual 'life got busy' line, I told her the truth: she made one comment about my ex during our last workout and I let it sit and rot inside me for 2 years without ever saying anything. She just stared at me and said she did not even remember saying it. That hit me hard. I had built this whole story in my head where she was the bad guy, and she was not. What I learned is that I was the one who burned the bridge, not her. I was too scared to have a 5 minute awkward talk, so I traded 3 years of a real friendship for silence. Now I am wondering how many other people I have quietly written off over stuff I never even gave them a chance to explain. Has anyone else ended a friendship over something small that you blew up in your own head?
