Am I the only one who remembers when taking a mental health day was seen as slacking off?

Now I schedule them like any other important appointment.

Man, that old attitude wrecked a friend of mine. He worked at this place that treated sick days like a crime, so he just never took one. He kept pushing through migraines and panic attacks for months. Then one Tuesday he just collapsed at his desk, full burnout. The ambulance came and everything. Took him six months to even think about working again. His old boss called it "dedication" right up until the 911 call.

Block out one mental health day each month now.

Scheduling them like an appointment is smart, but I've always just taken one when I hit my limit. The old attitude about slacking off always seemed shortsighted to me.
