Appreciation post: the accountant who finally asked me why I was still paying for that subscription service after 3 years and I had no good answer
I was writing off a $47 monthly software fee for inventory tracking since 2021 and never questioned it till she pointed out our sales volume dropped 40% last quarter so now I'm wondering if the other side is that we get too comfortable with old systems and miss the real costs, has anyone else had a vendor they stuck with way too long out of habit?

Used to roll my eyes at people who said they needed someone to hold them accountable with finances. Thought it was just lazy. But last year my bookkeeper caught me paying for two separate cloud storage services and I had no clue. That one conversation saved me like $800 a year. Now I get it. Sometimes you're just on autopilot and don't see the waste until someone with fresh eyes points it out.

Chalk this up as another thing my ADHD tax gets to collect, right alongside the three identical sets of wire strippers I bought because I kept forgetting I already owned them. My own accountant has saved me from myself more times than I can count, usually by just asking one simple question that makes me realize I haven't actually thought about a bill in two years. It's humbling finding out your brain treats "set it and forget it" as a permanent lifestyle choice rather than a cooking infomercial slogan.
