bookkeeping software finally made me a believer after the shoebox tax day
I ran my landscaping company for 6 years with just a folder of receipts and a spreadsheet. Every March I'd pay my accountant $900 to sort through a mess and I kept telling myself the old way was fine. Last fall I spent $65 a month on QuickBooks and set up automatic invoicing and expense tracking. The tax prep bill dropped to $350 and I actually know what my profit is per job now. Has anyone else held out on paying for software and regretted the delay?

Started using a similar setup for my own crew last year after years of the same shoebox routine. The first time I ran a profit report per job I was honestly embarrassed at how blind I'd been, one client I thought was my bread and butter was actually barely breaking even because of the drive time and extra trips. I still keep a paper ledger for quick notes but everything else goes straight into the app now, and that tax bill drop alone paid for the yearly subscription twice over. Took me about a month to get used to it but now I'd never go back.
