Great quote from a bakery owner in Portland stuck with me
I was grabbing coffee down on SE Hawthorne last week and overheard this older guy talking about his bakery of 14 years. He said "we don't sell bread, we sell the 20 minutes people get to relax with it." That hit me hard. I've been so focused on my own product features and pricing that I forgot about the feeling customers actually pay for. Anyone else ever hear a simple line that completely shifted how you look at your own shop?

Isn't that one of those things you know in your gut but forget when you get buried in the daily grind? I run a small coffee cart and had the same wake-up call when a regular told me she stops here because it's the only quiet spot in her whole commute. Now I make sure the music is low and the chairs are comfortable, because she's right, people pay for that little pocket of calm more than they pay for the drink itself.

Honestly that coffee cart regular saying "quiet spot" gave me chills. My buddy runs a barbershop in Eugene and he told me once that guys don't come for the haircut, they come to sit in the chair and not think about work or their kids for half an hour. He started leaving the TV off and putting out better magazines after that. It's wild how the small stuff like chair comfort or music volume makes or breaks that feeling. I think most of us get so wrapped up in the product we forget we're selling a break from the noise. Glad you heard that too, it's a good reminder.
