I finally saw my own website on a phone and it was a mess

I was showing my new landing page to a friend at a cafe in Denver last week, and she pulled it up on her phone. The text was tiny, the buttons were stacked wrong, and you had to scroll sideways to see prices. I'd only ever checked it on my big desktop monitor. That one look told me I'd been ignoring mobile users for months. How do you guys make sure your sites work right on phones without spending a ton?

My cousin in Phoenix had the same shock with her bakery site. She uses this free tool that shows how a page looks on different phones.

Doubt it's that big a deal for most sites... @eva908, your cousin's bakery probably needs it more than a basic blog or something. People just scroll past small stuff anyway.
