Just dumped $300 on a "pro" bookkeeper and she messed up my quarterly taxes worse than I ever did myself

I hired a lady from a local networking group in Austin to handle my numbers because I thought that's what real business owners do, but she classified my equipment purchases as expenses instead of assets and now I owe penalties. How do you even find someone who actually knows what they're doing and doesn't just have a nice website?

Used to be all about hiring someone to "look professional" but this totally flipped my thinking lol. Now I'm way more careful about actually checking someone's experience instead of just their vibe.

Joined the club @elizabeth900 lmao. I remember hiring this guy for my small business just because he showed up in a suit and talked a big game. Total disaster he had no clue what he was doing. Now I actually ask for work samples and call their references. Makes such a difference.

Totally flipped my thinking too, never really thought about it that way before.
