PSA: A city inspector in Austin made me rethink my whole pricing sheet

He was going over a job we did and pointed out a line item for a service call that was way below the actual cost of the van, tools, and my time. He said it looked like I was running a hobby, not a business. I redid all my numbers that night and raised my base service fee by $75. How do you guys figure out what your time is actually worth on the road?

Yeah, that outside look is key. I had to add up my truck payment, insurance, and gas just to get a real hourly rate for being on the road.

That inspector was spot on. It's wild how many small businesses, from food trucks to freelance work, undercharge for their actual time and costs. They get stuck in a race to the bottom against bigger companies or just their own fear of scaring off customers. You end up working harder for less, which just isn't a real plan. Getting that outside look at your numbers can be a total game changer.

Used to think that way too until I saw cameron538's breakdown.
