Rant: I ignored a guy selling $20 logos at a Phoenix trade show and he ended up doing my best work
Honestly I walked right past this guy's booth at a Phoenix trade show thinking anyone charging $20 a logo must be awful. Six months later I was slammed with client work and gave him a shot on a side project, mostly because I was desperate. He turned the drafts around in two days and the client picked his design on the first round, no changes. He's done 11 projects for me now and never missed a deadline once. Has anyone else found cheap help that turned out way better than the price tag made you expect?
That line about giving him a shot "mostly because I was desperate" is the part that gets me, because that is how most of these cheap finds actually start. Nobody wants to admit it but being forced into a corner is what makes you try people you would normally skip, and the good ones prove it fast while the bad ones wash out in a week. The real trick is not the $20 price, it is that you kept sending him work after the first one landed instead of moving on to someone fancier.
