TIL that 20% of small businesses fail in year one, and I found the stat while cleaning out my old shop on 5th Street
I was going through old paperwork from when I opened my first storefront back in 2016 and found a printout from the SBA tucked in a folder. The number that got me was that about 1 in 5 new businesses don't make it past the first 12 months, and I had no idea it was that high when I signed my first lease. My neighbor ran a bakery two doors down and closed after 9 months, which lines up with that stat perfectly. Did any of you know those odds going in, or did you just jump like I did?
