TIL the $15 invoicing app beat the $60/month one my accountant in Austin pushed on me
Everyone told me I needed the fancy subscription software to look professional, but I ran both for 90 days and the cheap one won. The $60/month tool took me 22 minutes per invoice because of all the extra fields and popups, while the simple one took about 6 minutes once I set up my template. My accountant in Austin kept saying the expensive one was "industry standard" for tracking and reports, but I export a CSV and she plugs it into her own system anyway, so all those features were just sitting there unused. I'm not saying the big tool is bad, I'm saying I was paying $720 a year for stuff I never touched. Six months in and my clients haven't noticed a single difference on their end. Has anyone else dropped a pricey service and found the basic option did the same job?
Been there with a scheduling tool that wanted way too much money every month. It had all these bells and whistles like auto reminders and team calendars, but I run a one man shop so none of that mattered. Switched to a cheap one and cut my booking time in half. The extra features just slow you down when you never use them. Pricey does not mean better, it just means someone sold you a story. How long did it take before you stopped second guessing the switch?
