Had a talk with my neighbor about his 20 year old washing machine
Tbh I was complaining about my Samsung washer breaking down after 3 years, and my neighbor Bob just laughed. He showed me his old Speed Queen from 2004 that he got off Craigslist for $150 still going strong. Made me realize I've been throwing money at fancy features when simple and repairable is the way to go. Anyone else run into a random older appliance that puts modern stuff to shame?

Right? Found a 1990 Kenmore fridge on the curb with a "free" sign. Cleaned it up, replaced a $8 thermostat, and it's been running like a champ for four years now. No fancy ice maker, no water dispenser, just cold air and a light bulb. That thing could probably outlive me.

Bought a 15-year-old Maytag dryer off Facebook marketplace for $40 last year and it dries clothes faster than my buddy's brand new LG. Thing's built like a tank, just a belt and a motor you can swap out with a screwdriver. Makes you wonder why we keep buying into all that touchscreen nonsense when the old stuff just works.
