My $18 rice cooker from the Asian grocery on Bellaire in Houston just hit 9 years of daily use
I was scrubbing the pot this morning and noticed the nonstick is finally starting to flake near the rim, so I looked up when I bought it. Receipt in my junk drawer says March 2016, $18 plus tax. That thing has run a pot of rice almost every single day since, so I'm guessing close to 3,000 batches at this point. It survived two moves, a roommate who dropped it off the counter, and me never once reading the manual. The hinge on the lid is loose but it still seals fine and the switch still pops on its own. I keep waiting for it to die so I can justify a nicer one, but it just won't. Ten bucks says it outlives the $120 one I keep almost buying. Has anyone else had a cheap appliance massively outlast the fancy version they owned before it?
