My dad handed me his 40 year old cast iron pan last weekend and I almost cried
My dad is moving into a smaller place in Buffalo and he gave me his cast iron skillet that he got as a wedding gift back in the early 80s. I asked him how he kept it so smooth and he just shrugged and said 'I never washed it with soap, that's it.' It got me thinking about how pretty much everything I buy now falls apart in a couple years, and this pan has outlived three of his cars. I keep seeing new pans marketed as 'pre seasoned' for $80 and it makes me wonder if we just forgot how to take care of stuff. Has anyone else gotten a hand me down that made them rethink what 'worth the money' even means?
