My uncle swore by buying cheap blenders every 2 years instead of one expensive one

He told me a $30 blender from Walmart would last just as long as a $400 Vitamix if you don't overfill it. I tried his advice with a Hamilton Beach last March, and it burned out by August after making smoothies 3 times a week. Now I'm debating if he was right about cost per use or if I should just bite the bullet on a pricier model. Anyone else have cheap appliances that surprised you by lasting longer than expected?

Buddy of mine tried the cheap blender route. Picked up a $25 Oster at a garage sale, used it almost daily for two years. Thing finally died when he tried to crush ice for margaritas, threw a bearing or something. He replaced it with another cheap one, same thing happened in like 8 months. Now he's got a used Blendtec he found at a thrift store for $60, still running strong three years later. Cheap stuff works until it doesn't, then you just paid for the lesson.

benc53 nailed it, my friend learned the same lesson with a juicer.

My $25 blender once died mid-smoothie and left me chewing on frozen banana chunks like a sad caveman.
