PSA: the $35 "heavy duty" garden hose I bought at a hardware store in Erie died in 4 months
I figured I would save a few bucks and grabbed one of those green hoses advertised as heavy duty for $35. By month three it had a blister bubble near the nozzle, and by month four that spot burst and soaked my whole side yard while I was at work. I also found out the brass fittings were just painted pot metal and one snapped off when I tried to undo it by hand. So I am out the $35 plus about $20 of water that ran down the storm drain before my neighbor shut it off. My dad has a rubber hose that has made it through 11 winters in Minnesota. Does anyone have a brand that truly survives a freeze, or am I just supposed to drag the thing inside every fall?
Did you buy that green one with the shiny brass ends that look nice out of the package? I got the same kind of hose two summers back and the outer layer started peeling off like a sunburn by August. The inner tube was fine but the shell turned into flaky green confetti all over my driveway. I ended up dragging it to the curb on trash day and eating the cost too.
