Shoutout to my 12 year old cast iron skillet that survived a move across state lines

I moved from Phoenix to Denver last month and that thing got tossed around in a U-Haul for 12 hours. No bubble wrap, just wedged between a microwave and a stack of towels. When I unpacked it I was sure the handle would be cracked or the seasoning would be chipped to hell. Nope. Still smooth as glass and cooks eggs like a dream. My roommate's nonstick pan chipped after one drop in the sink. Has anyone else hauled kitchen gear through a rough move and had it hold up?

I mean, that's pretty wild that it came through that move unscathed. My grandma's old cast iron skillet made it through a move from Chicago to Florida packed in a duffel bag with jeans wrapped around it. That thing is like a tank.

My grandma's skillet survived a 1200 mile move stuffed in a trash bag with old towels, not even jeans, just random rags. I'm convinced you could drop those things off a roof and they'd just dent the pavement. The only way to really mess one up is to leave it wet in the sink for a week or drop it on a tile floor. She still uses that pan to fry chicken every Sunday, no joke. It's got decades of seasoning baked into it, so nothing sticks anymore. Those skillets are built to outlast everything.

Saw a buddy's cast iron survive a move in a suitcase with dirty socks, @samwalker, true story.
