Switched to a ceramic mug last year after dropping my 4th steel travel cup on the concrete at the job site

That ceramic one shattered on day 3, but my buddy's old enamel mug from the 80s is still going strong after he dropped it off a 12-foot ladder. Anyone else find that the 'tough' stuff today doesn't hold up like the basic stuff from decades ago?

I heard some old-timer say that back in the day companies actually tested their stuff on job sites instead of in a lab, and it shows. Enamel mugs from that era were basically just a thin layer of glass on steel, so they bend instead of cracking like modern ceramics. It's wild how we went backwards on durability just to make things look fancier on a shelf.

My buddy Mark bought a brand new thermos last winter, dropped it once in the parking lot, and the lid cracked right off. His dad's old metal one from the 70s is still kicking around, dented to hell but still seals tight.

Yeah it's frustrating how flimsy stuff is now compared to the old gear.
