TIL my local hardware guy gave me a tip that saved me $50 on a pipe wrench
Old man at Ace Hardware told me to buy the aluminum handle version instead of the iron one. Told me it's lighter and still holds up for home use. Anyone else had a random clerk give you game-changing advice?

Huh, that's actually pretty solid advice. Did he mention if the aluminum one holds up just as well against corrosion or if it'll strip out faster over time? I've always been curious about that tradeoff since the price difference is usually pretty big.

Used to think you HAD to go steel for longevity but I’ve actually changed my mind on that. The aluminum ones hold up fine if you don’t over-torque them, and the weight savings are REAL.
