Vent: That $40 dehumidifier from Home Depot didn't dry a single towel

Bought it during that humid spell in Portland last July, thought I was being smart. Thing ran for 48 hours straight and the bucket barely had a splash in it. Called a buddy who does HVAC and he said most cheap units don't have the right compressor size for real moisture. Anyone else found a small dehumidifier that actually pulls its weight?

Honestly that HVAC buddy was probably right but I dont think its just the compressor size. I tried something similar and found out the hard way that those cheap units dont seal right around the bucket either. The air just leaks out the sides and all that effort goes nowhere. If you want one that works without spending a fortune check the clearance racks for a used Frigidaire, the older models with the actual pump inside will suck a room dry in a day.

So you're telling me I gotta go dumpster diving at the clearance racks AND make sure the thing doesn't whistle like a teakettle? lol

Yeah but those Frigidaires with the pump are getting hard to find now too...
