Why does nobody talk about Harbor Freight torque wrenches breaking mid-use?
I was swapping out my brake calipers in Des Moines last Tuesday and my cheap torque wrench from Harbor Freight just snapped in half at 80 ft-lbs. The click mechanism literally flew apart and hit my工具箱. I had to borrow my neighbor's Snap-on to finish the job and it was dead on accurate after 12 years of abuse. These cheap tools might save you $40 upfront but they cost me an afternoon and almost a set of rotors. Has anyone else had a similar failure with budget torque wrenches?

Oh man, that's rough. My buddy Dave had almost the exact same thing happen with his Harbor Freight torque wrench last fall while he was putting new heads on his F-150. He got it torqued to spec and the thing just let go with a loud bang, sent the socket flying across the garage. He spent like an hour picking little metal pieces out of his engine bay (what a mess). He still jokes that it's not a "click" type torque wrench (you know, the sound it makes when it's done), it's a "snap and hope for the best" type. Now he just borrows mine but I can tell he's still salty about it.

That "snap and hope" joke hits too close after my wrench exploded like a firecracker at 80 ft-lbs lol.
