Just learned a $3 Harbor Freight feeler gauge beats my digital angle finder on mitered face frames
Spent two hours on a maple face frame in my garage in Boise chasing a gap that would not close, even though my angle finder read dead on 45. Dug out an old feeler gauge set my dad gave me and found the saw was actually cutting 44.7, which the digital tool never caught. Slid a .003 shim under the gauge and the joint closed with almost no sanding, so now I check every miter that way before glue up. Anyone else trust the cheap stuff over the fancy gadgets, or am I just fooling myself?
