Overheard a guy at the lumber yard say something about my measuring tape that stung

I was grabbing some 1x4 poplar for a face frame and this older cabinetmaker looked at my tape and said "you trust that thing?" I checked it against a ruler and my hook was 1/16 off from getting bent. Never even crossed my mind to check it after all these years. Any of you guys ever find a tape that's out of whack from a drop?

@verar21 I feel you but honestly 1/16 on a face frame? I mean unless you're building museum pieces nobody's gonna see that with a naked eye from three feet away. @kimreed makes a good point about margin of error - half the time my pencil line is thicker than that. Yeah it's sloppy but if your cuts are consistent and your joinery is tight that 64th disappears in the glue up anyway. I'd be way more worried about my saw blade wobbling or my square being off than a tape hook that's bent a hair.

Yeah but a 64th either way is usually within my margin of error anyway.

1/16? Man that would drive me nuts on a face frame. I'd be second guessing every cut until I figured out why things weren't lining up.
