Pro tip: I tried pre-finishing my plywood before cutting and now I'm never going back
Last month I had a kitchen job with 14 boxes and decided to spray all my 3/4 plywood sheets with lacquer while they were still full size. I figured it would save time, since I could lay them flat and knock out all the faces and edges in one pass. What I didn't plan for was how much easier the cuts went, the finish acted like a lube and my blade left almost no tearout on the birch veneer. I also stopped fighting grain blowout on the crosscuts, which usually eats up an extra hour per box. Downside is you have to be careful handling the sheets so you don't scuff the face, and I burned through a roll of painter's tape masking the cut lines. Has anyone else tried finishing sheets before breaking them down, or am I late to this party?
Wait, the finish actually acted like a lube and cut down your tearout? That's wild, I would've bet money it'd gum up the blade instead. So you're saying the sheets were like sliding through butter the whole time?
