Rant: My old shop teacher in Dayton showed me a dumb pencil trick that saves me 20 minutes per face frame
I was back in Dayton two weeks ago helping my brother move and I ran into my old shop teacher at a hardware store on Third Street. He showed me how to wrap a rubber band around a pencil to mark a consistent reveal line instead of measuring each stile, and I've been doing it on every cabinet since. Has anyone else picked up a small trick like that from an old timer that you still use?
My grandfather used to fold a piece of paper to check if a corner was square, and I still do it 30 years later. These little things stick because they came from someone showing you in person, not from a video. Same reason I still tie my shoes a certain way that my dad taught me.
