Tried using epoxy as a cabinet filler and it turned into a volcano
I was filling some knots on a walnut face frame and used a deep pour epoxy without checking the heat. It actually bubbled up and hardened into this weird cone shape, looked like a tiny volcano on my customer's cabinet. Has anyone else had epoxy do something wild like that?

Nah you gotta prep better next time. That deep pour stuff kicks off if you mix too much at once or if it's sitting in a warm shop. I've seen guys pour a half inch thick layer on a tabletop and it turned into a bubbly mess because they didn't let it cool down between pours. Walnut's already a dense wood too so it holds heat. Little batches or slow pours are your only move with that stuff.

That bit about the walnut holding heat got me thinking. It's like when you try to rush anything that needs to cool down. Reminds me of how my wife always says not to put hot leftovers straight in the fridge, or the whole thing gets warm and steams up. Same idea with that epoxy, it's all about letting things settle at their own pace or you end up with a mess no matter how careful you were with the mix.

Walnut holds heat that much? I knew it was dense but a half inch layer turning into a bubbly volcano is something else. Almost makes me want to see what happens if I tried a full inch on purpose, just out of curiosity. Not that I'd risk a customer's piece for a science experiment. But still, that's wild how the wood itself can screw you over that bad.
