Vent: My dovetail jig slipped halfway through a walnut jewelry box.

I was in my garage shop on Tuesday, cutting the last side, and the whole piece shifted, ruining the pin board. I had to stop, re-clamp everything with a fresh backer board, and recut the joint by hand to save the material. What's your go-to trick for keeping a jig rock solid on tricky grain?

@danielmason that's not a real crisis. Clamp harder next time.

That "fresh backer board" step is key. I always glue 80 grit sandpaper to the faces of my jig's clamping pads. The grit bites into the wood grain, even on figured walnut, and it basically never slips. Just rough up the backer board surface too for extra grip.

Ever try that with a coarser grit like 40?
