A piece of old garden hose saved me from a crawl space disaster

I was running a new line under a house in Fresno last Tuesday and kept snagging the cable on sharp floor joist nails. After three tries, I cut a two foot section from a busted hose in my truck, slit it open lengthwise, and wrapped it around the joist edge. The cable slid right through without a scratch. What other cheap items have you guys used as makeshift cable guards?

Pool noodles are my go-to for that exact problem.

That hose trick is smart. I've used split loom tubing for the same thing, but honestly, the foam pipe insulation you get for like a dollar a tube works even better sometimes. You can just cut a piece, wrap it around, and tape it shut.

My buddy tried that foam insulation trick @faithwalker and it saved his dog from chewing another phone charger.
