Am I the only one who spent 2 years crimping coax connectors wrong?

Last Tuesday I was on a job in Oak Park and a senior guy watched me strip a cable. He just laughed and showed me I was leaving the braid too long before putting the connector on. I had been wondering why half my signal checks were borderline. Has anyone else had that moment where an old timer fixed a bad habit you didnt even know you had?

Oh man, I actually think you might be overthinking this! I've been doing it my way for years and my signal checks always pass just fine, so maybe the old timer was being a little too picky. As long as the connection holds and the meter says it's good, who really cares about a little extra braid?

People get way too hung up on doing things the "right" way instead of just checking if it works. It's like how everyone obsesses over following a recipe to the letter when the meal comes out fine with a few swaps. The meter doesn't lie. If it passes, it passes. Some folks just need that extra bit of control to feel secure.
