Had a customer in Trenton last week who tried to tell me how to do my job
Some dude in a three piece suit watched me pull coax through his drop ceiling and started saying I should use a fish tape instead. I've been doing this 12 years lady, I know when a rod works better than tape. Had to stop and ask him how many cable runs he's done professionally. He shut up real quick after that. Anyone else get customers who think they know the trade better than you?

Best thing I ever learned was to just smile and ask them one simple question about the job. Usually shuts them down before it gets awkward.

Gonna push back a little here. I get that it can be annoying when someone tries to give unsolicited advice, but calling it "awkward" or saying they need to "stay in their lane" feels like making a bigger deal out of it than it is. Like, @clairem47 mentioned the suit guy overstepping, but honestly, half the time people are just trying to be helpful even if they're bad at it. I've seen way worse things happen at gatherings than someone asking a quick job question. Unless they're really pushing it, I'd just let it slide and move on.
