I had a chat with an old timer at the supply house who made me rethink how I run coax in attics

He said I was causing way more signal loss than I thought by not using proper support straps every 4 feet, and after checking my last 3 jobs I think he was right, anyone else ever get called out for something basic like that?

Wait, every 4 feet with support straps? I've been running coax in attics for years and never knew that was a thing... guess I've been losing signal this whole time. Kind of embarrassing to learn that from some old timer at the supply house rather than figuring it out myself.

Every 4 feet with support straps" sounds like overkill to me. I've been running coax loose in attics for 15 years and never had a signal problem you could actually measure. Unless the cable is literally dragging on the ground or getting stepped on, it's fine.

Four feet? Man, I've been eyeing it like a blind painter.
