Just realized my whole van setup changed after one bad install in Macon
Eight years back I was carrying maybe 40 pounds of gear and half of it never left the truck. Then I did a job in Macon where a guy had a brick wall and my old drill got me nowhere, so I started keeping a hammer drill and a longer bit kit on hand. Over the next bunch of jobs I slowly swapped out my old crimpers for a compression kit and stopped hauling coax staples. Now my van is about 15 pounds lighter and I get through a standard wall drop in maybe 20 minutes instead of 45. Did anyone else's kit trim down like that or do you still keep the heavy stuff just in case?
What made you finally drop the coax staples for good? I kept mine in the van for two extra years after switching to compression, telling myself I might need them for some old-school job. Never touched the box once. Curious if you had a moment where you just knew the old stuff was dead weight, or did it take a few trips of moving it around before it clicked? Also, did the lighter load change how you pack the van, like did you redo your shelving or just leave the empty space? Getting through a wall drop in 20 minutes instead of 45 is a big jump, so something in your workflow clearly changed beyond just the tools.
