Pro tip: a homeowner's comment about my ladder placement made me rethink my whole setup
I was working a job in a tight backyard last month, and the customer watched me set my extension ladder against the gutter. He said, 'You know, the last guy put a standoff on that and it didn't mark up my house.' I'd always thought my way was fine, but that got me. The next day I bought a ladder stabilizer bar. Used it on three jobs since, and it's way more stable on vinyl siding, plus the customer doesn't get upset about scuffs. Has anyone found a particular brand of stabilizer that holds up better than others?

My old boss in Toledo always made us use a standoff on gutters. He said one cracked gutter from a ladder point cost him a whole siding job's profit. I've had the same basic Werner stabilizer for years now and it's been solid. It just feels so much safer on those windy days, especially on newer houses with that flimsy vinyl.

Which brand did you end up buying?

Hey rose_craig97, did your boss make you buy the brand that cracks the fewest ladders?
