That one crawl space job that ate my whole afternoon
Got a call for a new drop in a 1920s house, figured two hours max. The crawl space entry was behind a built-in bookcase the homeowner had to empty. Once I got under there, the entire subfloor was a maze of old knob and tube wiring, cast iron pipes, and zero clear paths. Had to hand-fish the line around three separate obstacles, and the drill bit snapped on a hidden nail plate. Ended up taking almost five hours just to get the cable from the outside box to the living room wall. Anyone else run into a historic house that just laughs at your usual methods?

Oh man, those old houses are a special kind of beast. They always hide the worst surprises behind the walls. You definitely earned your pay on that one.

You're spot on about that "special kind of beast" thing. I helped a buddy demo an old kitchen once and we found three different layers of flooring, including some scary looking linoleum from the 50s. Every time we opened a wall, something new and terrible came out. @luna891 is right too, those houses really do fight back. I swear that place was trying to keep its secrets forever.
