The senior installer who told me to always pull slack before cutting was dead wrong last Wednesday

I was working a new build in Arlington, pulling coax through a tight crawlspace. He kept yelling at me to pull 15 feet of slack before I cut anything, so I did. Three houses later I had this massive coil of wire bunched up behind every wall plate and the customer complained about the bulge. Turns out his advice worked for his old 90s houses with drop ceilings, not modern tight wall cavities. Has anyone else had a mentor give advice that just doesn't fit the newer build styles?

Had a buddy who got the same advice and spent hours cutting back excess from every single plate.

Ngl I used to always pull extra slack too but this actually makes way more sense.
