Wasted $80 on a 'magic' cable stripping tool from Amazon
I saw this ad for a auto-adjusting coax stripper that promised 'perfect strips every time'. Paid $80 for it because I was SICK of messing up inner conductors. First job, it completely mangled the dielectric on a RG6 run and I had to re-terminate 8 ends. Took me longer than just using my old manual stripper. Has anyone else fallen for a tool that was TOTALLY overhyped?

Man, I used to think expensive tools were always worth it. But then I bought a auto-stripper for like $60. Thought I was being smart. First time using it on a CAT6 cable, it cut right through the pairs. Ruined 20 feet of cable. Had to toss the whole spool end. Totally changed my mind about buying fancy gear. Sometimes the cheap manual stuff just works better.

Hear me out though, I mean it could just be that you got a bad one or a knockoff maybe. I've used a few different auto-strippers and the key is getting one with a proper depth adjustment, something you can dial in for the exact cable jacket you're working with. The cheap manual strippers are fine for a few cables, but if you're doing a whole network room or a lot of terminations, the auto ones save you a ton of time and hand fatigue. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather lose a foot of cable once in a while than have my hands killing me after a long day of stripping.
