Why does nobody talk about how bad cheap fish tape can mess up your day
I spent $12 on a no-name fish tape from the hardware store last week and it snapped on the third pull inside a conduit. Cost me an extra 45 minutes fishing out the broken end and driving to get a proper Klein. Has anyone else had a budget tool just fail on them at the worst possible moment?

Gotta disagree a little here. I've had a $10 no-name fish tape hold up for years in dry conduit, while a buddy of mine snapped his Klein on the first pull because the run had a sharp bend. @the_nina, micro-cracks can happen with any steel if you're bending it wrong or past its limit. What really messes you up is not checking the conduit before you pull - I always run a test piece of string through first to see if there's a hidden kink or debris. But yeah, your 45 minutes of fishing that broken tape out is a solid argument for spending a bit more next time.

Didn't I read somewhere that cheap steel can develop micro-cracks from just bending it wrong?
