Found a way to get my QME report faster after waiting 4 months in Sacramento

I had a QME exam back in March and the doctor said 90 days for the report... that turned into almost 4 months of waiting. My lawyer kept saying just be patient but I was losing my mind because my benefits were stuck. Last week I called the Medical Unit directly and asked about the status. Turned out the doctor's office had a typo on my claim number and it was sitting in a queue. They fixed it on the phone and I got the PDF emailed to me 3 days later. Cost me about 20 minutes of hold time but saved me weeks more waiting. Has anyone else had luck calling the Medical Unit directly instead of going through their attorney?

Oh wait, I gotta push back on that a little. Ngl, calling the Medical Unit directly isn't really risky - they're not gonna mess up your case just from asking a status question. That typo thing you mentioned is super common actually, I had the exact same problem where my address was one digit off and my paperwork sat there for weeks. Your lawyer might have a strategy for the actual hearings, but checking on admin stuff like claim numbers or basic status updates is totally fine to do yourself, just keep it simple and don't get into any legal arguments with them.

That's a risky move if your attorney had a strategy in place.
